The Crucifixion |
Current Meeting Minutes are posted below. The St. Ann ’s Parish Men’s Club purpose is to encourage spiritual growth and a sense of community in the parish. The members assist in parish liturgical, operational, educational, and social and maintenance activities as directed by the pastor and to maintain a liaison with the parish council and other parish organizations. The men’s club members are a neat, diverse group of guys, most of who retired to Bethany from D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and the Wilmington area. They have varied backgrounds in both the private and public sector, but despite (or because of) their backgrounds, they are a special group of fun loving guys who do a lot for their church and their community.
We meet
monthly (3rd Tuesday of the month), and run the parish Christmas
party and the parish picnic. We also
sponsor a golf outing, a men’s retreat, and various other events. All men of
the parish are most welcome and
(DRAFT)
ST. ANN'S MEN'S CLUB CALL TO ORDER: President John Walsh called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. OPENING PRAYER: Opening prayer was led by Deacon Dennis Hayden.
SALUTE TO THE
AMERICAN FLAG:
Pledge of Allegiance and God Bless America was led by Victor DeGeorge.
NEW MEMBERS PRESENT: No New Members were present. GUESTS PRESENT: Four wives of members were present and welcomed by President, Jack Walsh. DEACON’S CORNER: Deacon Dennis Hayden discussed the forthcoming new Roman Missal which will replace the current Roman Missal. The new Roman Missal rewrite is intended for all in attendance at the mass to be deeply involved with every part of the mass celebration. The basic mass structure won’t change; the missal wording is what will change. We will notice a change in the priest’s dialog in the mass is he reads from the new missal. The new missal readings are intended to inspire us to worship God with a renewed awe and adoration. The missal will be more inspirational and will fill the church of the aura of God himself. The words of the mass will be more poetic and perhaps more flowery. The new adaptation will give us a sense of God being present at the mass.
Reading of Previous Minutes is suspended. Copies of the minutes were emailed days before the meeting and hard copies were placed on the audience chairs for review. No issues were noted. As you know we conducted the football raffle ticket drawing Tuesday, September 27, 2011, that resulted in drawing two winning tickets—we fortunately drew two tickets with the idea we might have a non-participating winner. The first ticket drawn was Nancy Olsen, from Clinton, CT, who I talked with Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011. She indicated she could not go to the game, was very thankful, and suggested we draw a new winner. Accordingly, the second ticket drawn was that of Sean Harrigan, a St Ann’s parishioner, who lives in Eldersburg, Maryland, and has a residence in Sea Colony. He was delighted! The results were: The result; the membership unanimously chose a Catered Christmas Party. Joe Martinez will proceed with the related planning arrangements for a Catered Christmas Party. TIME AND TALENT: Jack Walsh commented on the Parish Time and Talent Event. The Men’s Club participated in the event having a table setup with information on the Men’s Club activities. Jack did not think the Time and Talent Event was too effective because it did not draw a lot of participation. If parishioners would have stopped to see it, they would have been impressed. Something will be done to entice parishioners to want come to the Time and Talent event next year, i.e., coffee and doughnuts. When we don’t grasp the meaning of God’s words, read and reread the scripture until you do understand what he is saying. When you do, you will see how the dots connect, showing us that God is Love. God wants us to listen to his son Jesus. Bottom line; How else can we learn if we don’t listen? Note: Deacon Dennis welcomed Deacon Jack Freebery and Deacon Ed Danko. Deacon Jack thanked everybody for their thoughts and prayers. We wish him a speedy recovery. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the membership in electing Joe Martinez, Vice President, Steve Galata, as Secretary, Vic De George, Treasurer (incumbent) and myself as your President. We were very fortunate to have had the benefit of Tom Defibaugh’s tireless and effective leadership over the past two years. His shoes will be hard to fill. Adolph Perticari as our Secretary was great, and he brought a sense of humor to his office, and was continuously working behind the scenes. To our benefit they will both continue to be officially involved as elected trustee members of our Executive Board. I would also like to acknowledge the importance of our Executive Board Trustees. They provide an unbiased perspective to the administration of our By-Laws and associated Club endeavors. Neil Cooley (decided to step down) and Cliff Embley (recently reelected) both served very effectively in that role. Members questioning the minutes were asked to table their concern until after the meeting for discussion and possible resolution and/or correction. No issues were noted.
